Rossendale picnic postcards...

Below are the postcards we will be distributing to advertise the Rossendale picnic. I think one of the highlights will be the guided walks by local herbalists Tim and Tracey who they will take you around the park to pick wild plants and then, working in the museum, they will show you how to turn them into an ointment. Places are strictly limited so best to ring up and book your place soon (01706 260785)!

Another picnic!

Another date for your diaries...July 20th, we will be launching the medicinal herb garden at Rossendale Museum, planted by artists Kaspar Wimberley and Susanne Kudielka as part of the work they were doing with the New Light on Old Bones project. The garden will have a joint launch with local group Incredible Edible who are opening a community garden project that they have planted in the museum gardens. There will be lots to do from activities with local herbalists to meeting local food proucers and generally having a nice picnic! I'll post more details closer to the time...

Sunday picnic...

This Sunday from 12-4pm there is a celebration picnic (bring your own spread!) being held at Haworth Art Gallery. If the weather is fine (fingers crossed) we'll be in the gardens, if not we'll be in the house. Artist Becky Waite will be running her final workshops and inviting everyone to celebrate with her by decorating the trees in the park with the kaleidoscope installation she has been developing over the past month. You can also take the opportunity to see the new Stuart Haygarth piece commissioned for the gallery that inspired Becky's workshops, all in all a perfect day out!

Japonisme a la Brule le Noir...

You can all open your eyes now as you walk past the Pavilions, the Timorous Beasties work is up and looking great. We've got a photographer coming to take some images tonight, but until then you'll have to make do with my photography skills to give you an idea of what it looks like. You can't quite make it out on these pictures but on the bottom it say 'More treasure to discover...Blackburn Museum & Art Gallery'.

Online discussion...

There is an interesting response to the first in a series of works that Grennan & Sperandio are working with Burnley and Towneley Hall on going on over here. The discussion is focusing on the purpose of art and of opinions of Burnley, so if you have an opinion please feel free to wade in. One of the purposes of the work is to get people questioning what Burnley means to them, evoking discussion etc, find out more here.

Nearly there...

The new work form Timorous Beasties for our Blackburn site, taking inspirations from Blackburn Museums Japanese print collections is very nearly finished...
